What's Happening at the Library

Soldiers Grove Library News

Greetings Everyone,

Here’s what’s happening at your Library these days!

Next week:

The Soldier’s Grove library is sponsoring a fundraiser and educational event on Tues, Oct 28th at 7:00 pm. The Varnes-Epstein and Dworschack families are holding a benefit to assist the work of the staff at Nar Sarah Clinic in Sierra Leone . It is our hope to use this opportunity to offer information to our community about the unique, well rooted culture of the Sierra Leone people and incorporate current information about the Ebola
virus. We will have a limited amount of traditional West African rice and groundnut soup for you to try and tie dye cloth from the SEED Women Against Poverty Program (WAP) available for a donation.

If you are unable to attend the benefit but would like to contribute to the efforts of SEED, Inc, you can go online to seedsalone.com where there is additional information regarding their efforts and a donate button.

Wednesday, Nov 5th at 7pm we will be hosting author and filmmaker, Genevive Davis, to talk about her book and movie of the same name: Secret Life, Secret Death. Ms Davis will discuss her 10 years of family research discovering her grandmother’s story, the subject of her work.

Toddler Time continues with Ms Cindy, 10am Tuesdays, fun for preschool children and their parents/caregivers.

Our local history room, upstairs in the library’s mezzanine now holds the desk, chair and file cabinet of the late Ben Logan, cherished author of The Land Remembers, his memoir of growing up in these driftless hills on Seldom Seen Farm. Memorial services for Ben will be held this Sunday, Oct 26th at 3pm at the New Community Center in Gays Mills. Friends may call after 2pm on Sunday.
